A voter was caught trying to vote twice in Jeju.
The Jeju Election Commission reported on the 3rd that it had referred Mr. A and another person to the police on charges of attempting to vote again on the same day as the main voting day after participating in early voting (violation of the Public Official Election Act).
According to the election commission, Mr. A participated in early voting on the 30th of last month. Although he could not participate in the main voting, he attempted to vote again around 6:48 a.m. that day but was caught by the election officer checking identities.
Mr. B was caught trying to participate in the main voting again around 8 a.m. that day after voting in early voting on the 29th of last month.
The Public Official Election Act strictly prohibits double voting. Those who attempt to vote using deceit may face up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won.
The Jeju Election Commission stated that it plans to take strict action against activities that disrupt fair voting, such as attempts at double voting.
