On the 2nd, a court issued an arrest warrant for a man surnamed Won in his 60s, who was arrested by police on suspicion of setting fire on a Seoul Metro Line 5 train in operation.

On that afternoon, Chief Judge Lee Young-gwang of the Seoul Southern District Court explained the reasons for issuing the arrest warrant for Won, stating, "There is a risk of flight," and noted, "Considering the significant danger to public safety and the serious damage caused, the crime is grave." He also mentioned, "In light of the fact that he prepared the tools for the crime beforehand for inexplicable reasons, there is also a risk of reoffending."

Won is suspected of committing arson by pouring gasoline inside the train running between Yeoinaru Station and Mapo Station around 8:43 a.m. on the 31st of last month, then igniting it with his clothing.

As a result of the fire, 23 people, including Won, were transported to the hospital due to smoke inhalation, and 129 received treatment on the scene. Additionally, property damages amounting to approximately 330 million won occurred, including the loss of some sections of a subway car.

The Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station urgently arrested and investigated Won, then applied for an arrest warrant. It was reported that Won set the fire due to dissatisfaction with the results of his divorce proceedings, and he stated to the police that he purchased the gasoline for the crime at a gas station two weeks prior.
