The court will hold a detention examination for a man in his 60s who caused a fire on Seoul Subway Line 5 on the 2nd.

Director General Lee Young-kwang of the Seoul Southern District Court said on the 1st that a pre-arrest suspect examination (substantive examination of warrant) would be held at 10:30 a.m. on the 2nd for Mr. Won, who is accused of causing a fire on a currently operating train.

Earlier, the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. Won, who had been urgently arrested that day.

Mr. Won is accused of committing arson on a train running in the tunnel section between Yeoinaru Station and Mapo Station at around 8:43 a.m. on May 31. He reportedly sprayed a flammable liquid on the train before setting fire to his clothing.

The fire caused injuries to 23 people. It also resulted in damage to one subway car, with soot damage occurring in two others, leading to an estimated property loss of about 330 million won.

It is reported that Mr. Won stated during police questioning, after being urgently arrested immediately following the crime, that he committed the act due to dissatisfaction with the outcome of his divorce litigation with his wife.
