A man in his 60s died after falling while hiking in Seoraksan Mountain in Inje County, Gangwon Province.
According to the Seoraksan National Park Office of the Korea National Park Service, the man, identified as Mr. A, fell about 10 meters down a cliff around 4 a.m. on the 31st near the northwest ridge of Seoraksan.
The Seoraksan National Park Office received a rescue request from the 119 emergency call center and urgently mobilized a special mountain rescue team, conducting joint rescue operations with the East Sea Special Response Team and the Inje Fire Department Mountain Rescue Team.
However, it was reported that rescuers faced difficulties accessing the location due to the rugged terrain.
The Seoraksan National Park Office believes that Mr. A had an accident while hiking with a group of fellow climbers in a prohibited area.
The police and others are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
