On the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, a voter cast a proxy vote using someone else's identification card at an early voting site in Gangnam District, Seoul, on the 29th. Investigations have revealed that this voter is a current public official working in Gangnam District.

The Suseo Police Station in Seoul announced on the 30th that they urgently arrested a contract public official surnamed A from Gangnam District on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act the day before (29th) and are currently investigating.

Around 1 p.m. the previous day, A utilized her husband's identification card to vote at the early voting site in Daechi 2-dong, Gangnam District, and then attempted to vote again with her own identification card at around 5 p.m. that same day. She was caught after an election observer present raised an objection. The Suseo Police Station received a related report around 5:11 p.m. the previous day and began the investigation.

According to the National Election Commission, A was an election official responsible for issuing ballots at this voting site. A commission official stated, 'We have immediately terminated A’s position and plan to report her to the Suseo Police Station on charges of proxy voting under the Public Official Election Act.' The Gangnam District Office has suspended A from her position on the same day.
