Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Joo-ho, acting on behalf of the president, exchanged views on economic cooperation and development plans with a delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources on the 30th.

The acting prime minister met with the delegation at the Government Seoul Complex on that day and noted, “I hope for productive outcomes through close consultations with our relevant ministries during this visit to Korea.”

The Ministry of Education reported that the delegation reaffirmed its unwavering bipartisan support for the Korea-U.S. alliance. It added that the delegation believes the alliance will continue to grow based on comprehensive cooperation across various fields.

Moreover, the delegation expressed hope for deepening cooperation between the two countries, noting that Korea, as a leading nation in advanced technology, has significant potential for collaboration in areas such as energy, critical minerals, and the ocean.

The acting prime minister stated, “Our corporations are making substantial contributions to the U.S. economy through active investments, creating jobs, etc.,” and added, “The support systems under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the CHIPS and Science Act are important conditions for stable investments in the U.S., so I ask the lawmakers to take an interest and keep a close watch.”

In response, the delegation pledged to continue efforts at the congressional level to find various ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

The acting prime minister also told the delegation, “Active exchanges of people are the foundation of a strong Korea-U.S. relationship,” and requested, “Please provide support at the congressional level so that our international students, who will lead the alliance in future fields such as economy, technology, and culture, can focus on their studies.”
