A woman in her 40s was caught by police for defrauding 400 million won under the pretense of marriage while dating multiple men she met through a dating application.

The Uijeongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province stated on the 23rd that they had arrested a woman, referred to as A, on charges of fraud and transferred her to prosecution on the 12th.

According to police, A is accused of defrauding a total of 400 million won under the guise of home purchase funds by promising marriage to three men she met through an anonymous dating app from 2019 until this year.

Of the three men, B reportedly dated A in person and maintained a romantic relationship while cohabiting in an apartment in Gangseo District, Seoul. After receiving 58 million won from B, A suddenly went missing, according to police.

Police investigations revealed that while cohabiting with B, A was in contact with another man in a common-law relationship and transferred money received from B.

The police believe that after going missing, A repeatedly obtained money by simultaneously dating and cohabiting with multiple men.

So far, there have been three victims who filed complaints, and it has been reported that there are more men who have not yet filed.

Police confirmed that A fled between Incheon, Hwaseong in Gyeonggi Province, Cheonan in South Chungcheong Province, and Daejeon, and ultimately apprehended her in an apartment in Daejeon after tracking taxi rides during covert investigations.

Initially, A denied the charges, but under police interrogation, she reportedly stated, “I met men to extort money for living expenses and other costs.”

Police plan to continue investigations to identify any additional victims or further offenses.
