On the 22nd, police unveiled the identity of Chae Cheol-nam, 56, a Chinese national accused of murdering two individuals and injuring two others in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province.

The Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency held an identity disclosure committee on the same day and decided to release Chae Cheol-nam's personal information, including his face, name, and age. There were a total of seven members in attendance, including four external persons from the legal, academic, and medical fields, along with three police senior superintendents.

The committee noted, "This decision was made considering the seriousness of the crime and the public interest." According to the law regarding the disclosure of personal information for suspects of specific serious crimes, individuals may be disclosed if ▲ the crime method is cruel and severe damage has occurred, ▲ there is sufficient evidence that the suspect is believed to have committed the offense, or ▲ it is necessary for public interest, such as ensuring the public's right to know or preventing recidivism.

However, Chae Cheol-nam's name, date of birth, nationality, and photo were already made public by police on the 19th, when they issued a wanted notice related to the attempted murder case. As a result of this decision, three additional mugshot photos taken after his arrest showing the front and both sides were disclosed.

Chae Cheol-nam is accused of killing two brothers, identified as A, in their 50s, with a blunt object at his residence and the victims' residence in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, on the afternoon of the 17th. Two days later, on the morning of the 19th, he is also accused of injuring a female convenience store owner in her 60s at a nearby convenience store and a male landlord in his 70s at a sports park about 1.3 km away from the convenience store.
