On the 22nd, the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that it would officially begin establishing the '3rd Basic Plan for Supporting Preparation for Old Age' (2026-2030).

The basic plan for supporting preparation for old age is a statutory long-term plan established and implemented by the state every five years to support citizens in systematically preparing for old age across various areas such as finance, health, leisure, and interpersonal relationships throughout their lives, in accordance with the 'Old Age Preparation Support Act'.

The government plans to include an integrated support system for old age that can respond to an ultra-aged society in this basic plan. Korea entered an ultra-aged society at the end of last year; however, the preparation rate for old age among the population aged 60 and over is only 66.7%.

The government is promoting policy design centered around four main strategies: ▲ universalization and enhancement of accessibility for old age preparation services ▲ improvement of lifecycle and area-specific customized service systems ▲ raising awareness and increasing participation across all generations ▲ enhancement of policy foundations and management systems.

To actively reflect diverse opinions from the public and experts, the government plans to operate a preparation forum for old age from April to July and conduct group in-depth interviews by sector, as well as hold two public debates from July to September. Based on this, the third basic plan will be finalized and announced in December.
