The police have launched a full-scale investigation related to the controversy surrounding SK Telecom's (SKT) failure to respond promptly to the server hacking incident.

On the afternoon of the 21st, the Namdaemun Police Station stated that it would summon representatives from the law firm Daeryun, who filed a complaint against SKT's CEO Ryu Young-sang and the head of security at SKT, for interrogation.

Earlier, Daeryun filed a complaint with the police on the 1st against Ryu and SKT's security chief for breach of duty and obstruction of official duties. Daeryun claimed in the complaint that SKT falsely reported the time it became aware of the hacking to the Korea Internet & Security Agency and neglected its duty to manage user information.

The Namdaemun Police Station plans to summon the People’s Livelihood Countermeasures Committee, which filed a complaint against Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, and CEO Ryu for violating the Personal Information Protection Act and the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, on the morning of the 23rd for interrogation. The committee alleged that the chairman and others took a delay in response despite knowing about the hacking.

The current police investigation related to the SKT hacking incident is proceeding along two lines. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Unit is tracking the perpetrators behind the hacking, while the Namdaemun Police Station is determining the responsibility of SKT.
