It was announced that the auction procedure for the home of broadcaster Lee Kyung-sil in Yongsan District, Seoul, has been canceled.
Lee stated on her social media (SNS) on the 16th, “I will tell you the conclusion. It has been resolved” and added, “My family didn’t know, but while resolving this, the article came out, and I was also surprised.”
Lee noted, “Having not worked for several years, I sought a stable income and made some investments. It was okay for a few years, but from about three years ago, it got tangled in many ways, which led to this.” She added, “I was worried about the kids and tried to resolve it before they found out, but all the people in the country got to know, and in a word, it blew up.”
She further expressed, “I wish I could post a photo of the cancellation receipt, but I will refrain from that,” and said, “I am sorry and grateful to those who were worried and anxious.”
Earlier, it was reported on the 15th that an auction for Lee's 293㎡ (approximately 89 pyeong) apartment in Yongsan District, Seoul, owned by Lee, was scheduled to take place on the 27th at the Seoul Western District Court, according to GGAuction, a real estate auction and court auction data company.
According to the registered property records, Lee purchased this apartment for approximately 1.4 billion won in 2007 and has lived there since. A collateral of 1.8 billion won was established under A's name. Therefore, it is analyzed that Lee’s house was used as collateral to secure a loan which has not been repaid, leading to the auction.
A applied for a voluntary auction of Lee's apartment in September of last year, with a claim amount of approximately 1.33 billion won. A voluntary auction is a process in which a property is auctioned without trial at the request of a financial institution, such as a bank, when the borrower of a real estate collateral loan is in arrears for more than three months. It has been reported that A subsequently transferred the claim to a lending company.
