Heo Gyeong-young, the honorary representative of the National Revolutionary Party, who is charged with sexual harassment and fraud, has been detained.
The Uijeongbu District Court issued an arrest warrant on the 16th for Representative Heo, who is accused of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (embezzlement), fraud, violating the Political Fund Act, and quasi-coercive sexual assault. The court stated that the warrant was issued due to concerns about evidence destruction. Representative Heo is accused of selling spiritual products to believers at excessively high prices compared to the original cost and of sexually assaulting female believers.
Earlier, police summoned Representative Heo for questioning dozens of times and even searched the religious facility known as Haneul Palace. Subsequently, on the 8th, they applied for an arrest warrant with the prosecution, which was requested in court on the 13th, five days later.
Representative Heo denied the allegations of sexual harassment during his previous appearance in police investigations. He has also raised concerns about the legality of recent police inquiries.
