On the afternoon of the 13th, a man caused a commotion by attempting to jump from the rooftop railing of a 15-story building near Gangnam Station on Line 2 of the subway in the Gangnam district of Seoul.
According to fire authorities, a report was received at around 3:04 p.m. that "a person was sitting on the rooftop of the building." Subsequently, 58 personnel and 17 pieces of equipment were dispatched for a rescue operation and to prepare for any emergencies. Seven air mats were installed in case the man fell.
The police also dispatched a negotiation team to carry out the rescue operation. The man's father also arrived at the scene.
Fire department rescuers successfully pulled the man from the rooftop railing to safety around 6:28 p.m. It had been 3 hours and 24 minutes since the report was received.
As the attempted jump occurred, movement of citizens near the building was restricted. Access to the building where the man had climbed and the adjacent building was also limited. The nearby Gangnam Station exit was closed.
