Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Joo-ho held a meeting on economic security strategy on the 12th and reviewed future responses regarding the United States' tariff measures.
Attendees of the meeting included Lee, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the head of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, the acting Minister of Economy and Finance, the Chief Negotiator for Trade, the Vice Minister of Science and ICT, and the Vice Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
Participants shared updates on the Korea-U.S. technological consultations regarding the United States' tariff measures. They also discussed future responses to the U.S., including the upcoming Korea-U.S. ministerial meeting scheduled for the 16th.
Lee noted, “Please be sure to carefully assess the recent U.S.-U.K. trade agreement and the consultation trends of other similar countries with the U.S.”
He added, “Relevant ministries should work closely together to maximize national interests and advance discussions under the principle of mutual benefit between Korea and the U.S.,” and asked, “Please maintain ongoing communication with the National Assembly and the public during the discussion process.”
