The prosecution has formally notified Kim Keon-hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, to appear for questioning this week in relation to the investigation into the alleged intervention in nominations involving 'political broker' Myung Tae-kyun.
According to the legal community on the 11th, the central district prosecutor's team dedicated to the Myung Tae-kyun case (Head of Team Lee Ji-hyeong, Vice Chief Prosecutor) recently sent a summons to Kim Keon-hee's side, asking her to appear as a suspect of violating the Public Official Election Act and the Political Fund Act. The prosecution is known to have requested her to appear at the prosecutor's office on a day this week.
After receiving part of the Myung case from the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office in February, the central district prosecutor's investigation team conveyed several times verbally to Kim Keon-hee's side that a face-to-face investigation was necessary. However, there was no response from her side, so practical scheduling could not be coordinated.
If Kim Keon-hee refuses to comply with this summons without justifiable reasons, the prosecution is reportedly considering issuing another summon notification and applying for an arrest warrant.
The prosecution is investigating allegations that Kim Keon-hee intervened in the nomination of former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young-sun during the 2022 by-elections. The prosecution suspects that she received public opinion surveys related to former President Yoon from Myung Tae-kyun for free and intervened in the nomination in return.
