Acting President Lee Joo-ho, who is also the Minister of Education, visited the Incheon Jung-gu West Sea Five Islands Special Guard Unit to inspect illegal fishing crackdown sites as the spring crab fishing season commences.
According to the Ministry of Education, the acting president visited the Incheon Jung-gu West Sea Five Islands Special Guard Unit’s patrol vessel 3005 on the holiday and received a report from the Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard about the status of crackdowns on illegal fishing by foreign vessels within the Northern Limit Line (NLL) and the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The acting president encouraged the coast guard for their success in evicting illegal foreign fishing vessels through special crackdowns and instructed them to strengthen enforcement to minimize damage to fishermen in the future.
The acting president noted, "The West Sea Five Islands and surrounding waters are crucial not only for the livelihoods of fishermen but also for security," and added, "I express my deep gratitude for the dedication and efforts of the coast guard who work without hesitation in challenging seas."
He also stated, "I hope you will respond vigorously to foreign fishing vessels that devastate domestic fishery resources," and urged, "Please take all necessary measures to protect the public from maritime disasters and accidents."
