Rapper Sik-K (real name Kwon Min-sik), who turned himself in after drug use, was sentenced to probation in the first trial, and the prosecution appealed the verdict.

According to the legal community on the 9th, on the 7th, the prosecution filed an appeal with the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 7 (Judge Ma Sung-yeong), which issued the first-instance ruling.

The first-instance court sentenced Mr. Kwon Min-sik to 10 months in prison with a 2-year probation on the charge of violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics on the 1st. In addition, it ordered him to undergo 40 hours of drug addiction prevention education and probation.

The court stated, "The number of offenses is numerous, and he has used not only marijuana but also ketamine and ecstasy, and there is a prior conviction of the same kind," adding, "As a famous singer, his social influence is not insignificant."

However, the court explained the reasons for sentencing by stating, "The defendant deeply regrets his mistakes and is determined not to reoffend," and noted, "He has clear social ties."

Previously, in the first-instance sentencing hearing, the prosecution requested the court to impose a sentence of 3 years and 6 months.

Mr. Kwon was brought to trial on charges of using ketamine and ecstasy from October 1 to 9, 2023. He also has charges of smoking marijuana on January 11 of last year and possessing marijuana on January 13 of the same year.

Last year in January, he told a police officer working near the Seoul Regional Veterans Affairs Office in Yongsan District, Seoul, that he was "going to turn himself in for drug use," and was investigated by the police. The prosecution, which took over the case, indicted Mr. Kwon without detention in June of last year.
