Singer and songwriter Yoo Jae-hwan has been referred to the prosecution on charges of fraud.
On the 8th, the Seoul Seodaemun Police Station stated that Yoo Jae-hwan was referred to the Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office without detention on charges of fraud in March.
Yoo Jae-hwan is accused of deceiving victim A by promising to compose music for free, excluding labor costs, and charging 1.3 million won under the pretense of labor costs.
At that time, Yoo Jae-hwan announced on social networking services (SNS) that he was recruiting participants for the first phase of a composition project. Victim A also wired money after requesting a song.
Afterward, as Yoo Jae-hwan began recruiting for the second phase without completing the first phase, allegations of 'robbing Peter to pay Paul' regarding composition fees arose among participants. Ultimately, A filed a complaint against Yoo Jae-hwan for fraud with the police in May of last year.
Previously, in August of last year, Yoo Jae-hwan was sued by 23 individuals who had requested song production for the same charges. However, the police at that time concluded 'no charges' due to insufficient evidence.
Following the controversy, Yoo Jae-hwan noted, 'I will return any money collected for any form of business, including music projects, without spending a single penny.'
