Forty medical schools in the country have given failing grades to 8,305 medical students who did not attend classes and notified 46 individuals as subject to expulsion.

The Ministry of Education announced on the 9th the status of the failing and expulsion subjects submitted by the 40 medical schools.

Previously, the Ministry of Education received reports on the status of failing and expelled medical students from across the country until the 7th.

As a result, among 19,475 medical students, 8,305 are expected to fail (42.6%). In addition, 46 are counted as expected to be expelled (0.2%).

A Ministry of Education official noted regarding the expected failing and expulsion subjects, "We plan to handle them according to each university's regulations and procedures."

In addition, in universities where there is no failure in the pre-medical course, the number of students expected to receive academic warnings after the first semester of the 2025 academic year is 3,027 (15.5%). Additionally, 1,389 students (7.1%) registered for only one subject during the first semester.

According to the Ministry of Education, excluding medical students subject to failing and expulsion, the maximum number of subjects allowed to participate in the first semester is 6,708 (34.4%). Among them, 3,650 students in the pre-medical course are expected to participate in classes in the second semester of the 2025 academic year. Completion of credits not obtained in the first semester will allow for normal progression.

A Ministry of Education official said, "As the failing and expulsion status is confirmed by each university, we plan to fully collaborate with the universities to ensure that students who return to their studies can receive education normally."
