Singer Nam Taehyun (31), who is from the idol group 'Winner,' recently caused a drunk driving accident, and the police are investigating. Nam received a suspended prison sentence for drug use but had the accident before this period ended.
According to the police on the 8th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul booked Nam on the 27th of last month on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
On the 27th of last month at around 4:10 a.m., Nam caused an accident by crashing into a central divider while trying to overtake a vehicle near the Dongjak Bridge heading toward Ilsan on the Gangbyeonbuk-ro. At the time of the accident, Nam's blood alcohol concentration was at a level that would lead to license suspension (0.08% or higher). No injuries were reported from the accident.
Earlier, Nam was indicted without detention in August 2023 for violating the Narcotics Control Act, and the first trial court sentenced him to one year in prison with a two-year suspension in January of last year. Considering that this drunk driving incident occurred during the period of suspension, the police applied for an arrest warrant to the prosecution on the 2nd.
The court dismissed the arrest warrant during the preliminary examination of the suspect held on the 7th, stating, 'There is no concern about the destruction of evidence.' Therefore, the police plan to send Nam without detention.
Nam has been charged with administering 0.5 grams of methamphetamine purchased via Telegram mixed into drinks with influencer Seo Min-jae (32), who appeared on the 2022 reality show 'Heart Signal.' Seo was caught after posting on their social media about using drugs with Nam.
Nam also caused an accident while driving under the influence in March 2023 while being investigated for drug use, resulting in a summary order for a fine of 6 million won.
