The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 8th that 3,987 candidates passed the graduation equivalency test for elementary, middle, and high schools, which was implemented for the first time this year.
A total of 4,658 people took the test. The pass rate was 85.6%, which is lower than last year’s 90.5%.
By education level, the pass rate for elementary school graduates was 95.2%, the highest. This was followed by middle school graduates at 86.7% and high school graduates at 84%.
The oldest candidates who passed were all in their 80s for elementary, middle, and high school levels. The youngest candidate was 11 years old for the elementary test and in their teens for the middle and high school tests.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education provided accommodations such as reading and writing assistance to 48 candidates with visual and hearing disabilities during this test. Of these, 27 obtained their graduation equivalency certificates. Additionally, through this year’s 'visiting equivalency test service,' a teenager named Kang passed the high school equivalency test. This service allows candidates with mobility difficulties to use their homes or community centers as testing sites.
In this equivalency test, 49 incarcerated individuals also participated, of whom 42 passed. The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education designates the Southern Correctional Facility as a separate test site to help incarcerated individuals overcome the risk of academic interruption.
Those who passed the equivalency test can receive their certificates between the 8th and 9th at room 102 of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. Certificates of passing, grade transcripts, and subject passing certificates can be obtained from the government24 website, as well as the administrative offices of elementary, middle, and high schools and the civil service centers of the education office.
