Lee Jae-myung, the candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea in the presidential election, requested that the trials related to the Daejang-dong case and the witness manipulation case, scheduled for this month, be postponed to after the presidential election, similar to the public office election law trial. The trial for the Daejang-dong case was set for the 13th and 27th of this month, while the witness manipulation case was scheduled for the 20th.
On the 7th, the candidate's attorneys submitted a request for postponement to the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 33, presided over by Director General Lee Jin-kwan, and to the Seoul High Court's Criminal Division 3, presided over by Director General Lee Seung-han, asking for the trial dates for the Daejang-dong, Wirye, Baekhyeon-dong, and Seongnam FC cases to be set at a later date.
There has been no decision from the court regarding the request for change of date.
Earlier, the candidate's team requested that the first trial date for the election law violation retrial, originally scheduled for the 15th of this month, be postponed until after the presidential election. The court accepted this request and rescheduled the trial date to June 18th, after the presidential election.
The high court stated immediately after receiving the request for postponement that it would change the trial date to after the presidential election to ensure equal opportunities for the defendant, who is a presidential candidate, to campaign and to eliminate controversy regarding the fairness of the trial.
