The Ministry of Education noted on the 7th that it will operate Youth Gambling Problem Prevention Week from the 12th to the 18th in collaboration with the regulatory committee for the gambling industry under the Prime Minister.
Youth Gambling Problem Prevention Week is implemented to protect youth from gambling and to raise social awareness of the dangers of gambling. It was first held last year and marks its second event this year.
This year's prevention week will also include commemorative events in regions such as Seoul, Busan, and Daejeon. The events will consist of talk concerts, musicals, and more.
The Ministry of Education and the regulatory committee plan to strengthen cooperation to prevent youth gambling problems and establish safety nets. They will promote teacher training related to youth gambling prevention, instructor training, development of educational content, counseling for students and parents, and support for gambling addiction recovery services.
Vice Minister Oh Seok-hwan said, "We will actively support the prevention of youth gambling problems so that our children, the future generation, can grow up healthy and safely."
Chairman Shim O-taek noted, "The temptation of gambling aimed at youth is becoming increasingly sophisticated and intelligent, making continuous and systematic prevention education essential for youth gambling prevention."
