The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 6th that it will install a dedicated collection center for discarded banners in the Jungnang Water Recycling Center in Yongdap-dong, Seongdong-gu.
The dedicated collection center for discarded banners will cover an area of approximately 220㎡. It plans to serve as a recycling hub for the discarded banners collected from autonomous districts ahead of the presidential election on June 3.
In the past, discarded banners were managed by the autonomous districts themselves. However, this presidential election has been conducted irregularly and intermittently, resulting in limitations in the recycling process for discarded banners used during the election period.
Therefore, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to initiate recycling of discarded banners through the dedicated collection center. The goal is to systematize the entire process from the generation of discarded banners to their processing, aiming for 100% recycling.
Kwon Min, head of the Climate and Environment Headquarters at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, "This year will mark the starting point for 100% recycling of discarded banners, with a policy based on a tri-party governance structure where the city leads, the autonomous districts cooperate, and the private sector participates."
