A video of a middle school girl slapping a classmate has spread on social media (SNS), prompting police to launch an investigation.
According to the Incheon Yeonsu Police Station on the 3rd, the police received a report the previous day stating that "a video of school violence was uploaded to SNS."
A 1 minute and 39 seconds long video titled 'Incheon Songdo 2011 School Violence Video' was uploaded to Instagram the previous day.
In the video, the perpetrator, identified as student A, slaps classmate B on the cheek seven times in what appears to be an apartment's outdoor parking lot. B pleaded, "I'm sorry. Please stop," but A continued to slap her while shouting severe insults. While A was assaulting B, other students present did not intervene but instead laughed or filmed the incident.
The video is believed to have been filmed last November, and comments on the video revealed A's name and contact information.
As the controversy spread, the author, claiming to be A, stated through an Instagram post, "I acted with childish thoughts last year and have been reflecting a lot since then," adding, "While the victim has forgiven me, I think they have received an unhealable scar from my actions." They continued, "I sincerely apologize to those who might be angry and to the victim who has suffered, and I ask for help to correctly face my punishment and live properly."
Police are investigating the specific circumstances of the incident based on the SNS video and the report.
