On the 3rd, the first day of the May Golden Holiday, congestion occurred on highways nationwide.
According to the Korea Expressway Corporation, as of 6 p.m. that day, the estimated travel times for passenger vehicles departing from the Seoul toll gate to major cities across the country were ▲Busan 5 hours ▲Ulsan 4 hours 40 minutes ▲Gwangju 4 hours ▲Daegu 4 hours 10 minutes ▲Gangneung 3 hours 40 minutes ▲Daejeon 3 hours 10 minutes.
Congestion is occurring on the Gyeongbu Expressway in the direction of Busan from Ansung to Cheonan Rest Area for 33 km, on the Yeongdong Expressway in the direction of Gangneung from Icheon to Yeoju Junction for 10 km, and on the Seohaean Expressway in the direction of Mokpo from Gasan to Seopyeongtaek for 13 km.
Congestion in the direction of homecoming reached its maximum from 11 a.m. to around noon, but the Korea Expressway Corporation forecasts it will gradually ease and resolve around 9 to 10 p.m.
The corporation expects 490,000 vehicles to travel from the metropolitan area to the provinces and 460,000 vehicles to move from the provinces to the metropolitan area, making a total of 6.18 million vehicles moving nationwide.
