To control the wildfire on Mount Hamji in the northern district of Daegu, which is spreading after re-ignition, forest authorities have begun nighttime firefighting operations.

According to the forest authorities on the 30th, around sunset, ground personnel continued to build firebreaks or clear embers. The 43 helicopters deployed for daytime firefighting operations have withdrawn from the wildfire site, and although two Surion helicopters were scheduled to be deployed at night, they were not sent due to safety concerns.

As the wildfire in Daegu spread after re-ignition in the afternoon, the Fire Agency issued a national firefighting mobilization order around 5 p.m. A firefighting mobilization order refers to the provision of support from other areas when the firefighting capacity of the relevant fire headquarters is insufficient in the event of a large fire, accident, or disaster.

According to the Fire Agency, a fire line formed over a 2.2 km area of Mount Hamji, adjacent to the west side of Byeondong, where apartments and other residences are densely located, and it is reported that a significant portion has been extinguished through daytime firefighting efforts.

Currently, thick smoke is reported to be rising from three areas: Palgeosan Fortress, Mangilbong, and Won-dam Temple, located in the north and east of the affected area. In particular, to the east of Mangilbong and Won-dam Temple, there is a concentration of apartments in Byeondong, so the authorities are focusing their firefighting personnel in this area to prevent the fire from spreading.

The affected area of the Mount Hamji wildfire has been assessed as increasing from 260 hectares to 295 hectares. The forest authorities stated, "The re-ignited fire has not yet spread beyond the affected area," and emphasized, "We are focusing on preventing the flames from spreading into Byeondong, where apartments and other residences are densely packed."

Earlier, the fire on Mount Hamji, which broke out around 2:01 p.m. on the 28th, burned an area of 260 hectares and was extinguished at 1 p.m. on the 29th, after 23 hours. However, about six hours later, around 7:31 p.m. on the 29th, a partial re-ignition occurred on the 7th ridge near Baengnyeonsa Temple on Mount Hamji.
