The total number of admissions for the 2027 academic year will be 345,717, an increase of 538 from the previous year. However, this reflects an increase of 2,000 in medical school admissions, and changes may occur if the number of medical school slots is adjusted in the future.
The Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education (KACE) announced on the 30th that they had compiled the "2027 academic year university admission screening plans" submitted by 195 member universities nationwide.
The total number of university admissions for the 2027 academic year is 345,717, an increase of 538 from the 2026 academic year (345,179).
In the 2027 academic year, early admission will account for 80.3% or 277,583 students. The remaining 19.7% (68,134 students) will be selected through regular admissions.
This marks the first time since the introduction of the integrated college entrance exam in the 2022 academic year that the proportion of early admissions exceeded 80%. The proportion of early admissions has steadily increased in the total number of enrollments: 75.7% in the 2022 academic year, 78.0% in the 2023 academic year, 79.0% in the 2024 academic year, 79.6% in the 2025 academic year, and 79.9% in the 2026 academic year.
KACE stated that early admissions will primarily focus on high school records, while regular admissions will maintain a focus on the College Scholastic Ability Test.
In terms of admission type, the student record-based early admissions account for 85.9% of the total early admission enrollment. This includes 156,403 from the academic subject category and 81,931 from the comprehensive category, totaling 230,834. Regular admissions will count 63,195 from the test-focused category, totaling 92.8%.
The total number of admissions for the social integration admission type (opportunity balance and regional balance) is 51,196 (including outside the quota), a decrease of 90 from the previous year. In contrast, the regional balance selection for metropolitan area universities will account for 13,872, an increase of 786 from the previous year. Additionally, the number of special admission slots for regional talent has increased by 952 to 27,730.
However, the number of university admissions for the 2027 academic year announced on this day reflects an increase of 2,000 in medical school admissions. Changes may occur if the Doctor Supply-Demand Assessment Committee adjusts the medical school quotas in the future. The government plans to freeze the medical school admissions quota, which was previously 3,038, in May.
