This year, about 70% of four-year general universities and colleges of education have raised tuition. The average annual tuition per person was around 7.1 million won. In the case of medical schools, tuition has exceeded 10 million won.

The Ministry of Education noted on the 29th through the 'April 2025 University Information Disclosure' that 136 out of 193 four-year universities increased tuition, accounting for 70.5%. The remaining 57 universities (29.5%) froze tuition. The average tuition increase rate for all 193 institutions was 4.1%.

Among national and public universities, 27 institutions, excluding colleges of education (10 institutions), Korea National University of Education, and University of Seoul, froze tuition. The average increase rate for colleges of education was 5.3%.

The average tuition burden per student is 7.1065 million won, which is an increase of 277,000 won compared to last year.

It was estimated that tuition for private universities is 8.0024 million won, while for national and public universities, it is 4.2389 million won. By field, medicine is the highest at 10.1697 million won, followed by arts and physical education (8.144 million won), engineering (7.544 million won), natural sciences (7.1386 million won), and humanities and social sciences (6.2726 million won).

A representative from the Ministry of Education explained, 'Looking at the trends in tuition increases since 2010, this year has the highest tuition increase rate.'

Meanwhile, of the total 129 vocational colleges, 94 (72.9%) raised tuition. 34 (27.1%) froze it, and 1 (0.8%) lowered it. The average annual tuition per student at vocational colleges is 6.4505 million won, an increase of 258,600 won (4.2%) from last year.

Tuition for private vocational colleges was estimated at an average of 6.5112 million won, while public ones were estimated at 2.3737 million won. By field, arts and physical education (7.0315 million won) had the highest tuition, followed by engineering (6.5456 million won), natural sciences (6.5278 million won), and humanities and social sciences (5.7805 million won).
