Police revealed the identity of the suspect, 1992-born Kim Sung-jin, who carried out a stabbing spree at a mart in Mia-dong, Gangbuk District, Seoul.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency disclosed Kim Sung-jin's (32) face, name, and age on its website that day.
The police held a public notification review committee that day and stated, "The brutality of the crime and the seriousness of the victim's injuries are recognized, there is sufficient evidence of the crime, and the disclosure of personal information is necessary for public interest such as crime prevention."
Kim Sung-jin raised no objections, and his information will be exposed on the website for 30 days starting that day.
Kim Sung-jin was arrested in the act after tearing open the packaging of a knife displayed at the mart near Mia Station around 6:20 p.m. on the 22nd. A woman in her 60s, who was attacked by Kim, died, while another victim, a woman in her 40s, was injured but is not in life-threatening condition. Kim was found to have been wearing a patient gown from a nearby orthopedic clinic at the time of the crime, and it was investigated that he had been hospitalized at that hospital.
