Director Hong Sang-soo will participate as a jury member for the 78th Cannes Film Festival. This marks the 6th time a Korean director or actor has served as a jury member in the Cannes Film Festival.

The Cannes Film Festival organizing committee announced on the 28th (local time) through its website the personalities from the global film industry who will participate as jury members in this year's competitive institutional sector. Director Hong was included in the list of 8 additional jury members unveiled that day.

Regarding Director Hong's selection as a jury member, the Cannes Film Festival noted, "Hong Sang-soo, who has received numerous awards internationally, is a familiar figure at the Cannes Film Festival," adding, "He chose Cannes as the backdrop for his film 'Claire's Camera.'"

The Cannes Film Festival also pointed out that Director Hong has submitted 4 films to the competitive institutional sector and 4 films to the certain gaze institutional sector in the past.

In addition to Director Hong, jury members also include American actress and filmmaker Halle Berry, Indian director and screenwriter Payal Kapadia, Italian actor Alba Rohrwacher, French-Moroccan writer Leïla Slimani, Congolese director and documentary writer Dieudo Hamadi, Mexican director and producer Carlos Reygadas, and American actor Jeremy Strong.

Before Director Hong, South Korean jury members included Shin Sang-ok, Lee Chang-dong, actress Jeon Do-yeon, director Park Chan-wook, and actor Song Kang-ho.

This year's Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 13 to 24. On the final day of the event, award winners including the Palme d'Or will be announced. There are no Korean feature films invited to the official institutional sector this year.
