The police decided to replace over 2,400 SIM cards (USIM) among more than 20,000 business smartphones of SK Telecom that were hit by a hacking attack.

According to the Korean National Police Agency on the 28th, the police signed a work agreement with SK Telecom on the 25th to replace the SIM cards in business phones. SK Telecom will replace the SIM cards in police business phones as soon as the stock of SIM cards is secured.

The police also reportedly notified that personal smartphones on the internal network must enroll in the SIM protection service and replace their SIM cards.

The SIM protection service is designed to prevent damage caused by illegal SIM cloning. It serves to block access to communication services in the name even if hacking organizations steal and clone SIM information. The police are known to have also enrolled in the SIM protection services for business phones of SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus.
