The wildfire that broke out on the 28th at Hamji Mountain in Daegu is continuing to spread. The Korea Forest Service issued a level 3 response to the wildfire.
According to forest authorities, the wildfire occurred at around 2:01 p.m. at San 39 in Nogok-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu. As a result of the fire, about 670 residents from Nogok-dong near Hamji Mountain and 540 residents from Mutaejo-dong, a total of approximately 1,200 people from 899 households, evacuated to Paldal Elementary School and Maecheon Elementary School. Buk-gu, Daegu also ordered residents of Seobyun-dong to evacuate to the nearby Dongbyeon Middle School.
Forest authorities issued a level 1 response to the wildfire at 3:10 p.m. and a level 2 response around 3:40 p.m. The fire department issued a national firefighting mobilization order regarding the Hamji Mountain wildfire at 4:05 p.m. This mobilization order is issued when it is difficult to extinguish a fire with only local firefighting resources, necessitating mobilization at the national level.
Forest authorities are deploying 29 helicopters, 57 vehicles, and 704 personnel to combat the wildfire. As of 6 p.m. that day, the affected area by the fire is estimated to be 92 hectares. Of the total fire line of 6.5 kilometers, 0.9 kilometers have been extinguished. The extinguishing rate is 15%. A representative of the Korea Forest Service noted, “We will deploy all available helicopters, personnel, and equipment before sunset.”
