At around 1:18 p.m. on the 26th, a wildfire broke out in a hillside near Hanam-ri, Sangnam-myeon, Inje-gun, Gangwon Province.
Currently, the Korea Forest Service and firefighting authorities have deployed 14 helicopters, 34 firefighting vehicles, and 191 personnel, aiming to control the blaze before sunset. However, it is reported that the rugged terrain and winds of 6 meters per second are making it difficult to contain the fire.
The Korea Forest Service has issued a Level 1 wildfire alert. Level 1 refers to the readiness stage, which is issued when the expected damage area is estimated to be less than 10 to 50 hectares. This stage informs residents that evacuation orders may be issued if wildfires break out in nearby cities or provinces.
Traffic authorities have restricted vehicle traffic in both directions near the Inje interchange on the Seoul-Yangyang expressway.
