Fire authorities issued level 2 fire response following a wildfire that occurred in the nearby mountain area of Hanam-ri, Sangnam-myeon, Inje, prompting residents of nearby villages to evacuate.

According to the fire authorities on the 26th, the Inje wildfire that broke out around 1:11 p.m. that day spread, leading to an escalation of the fire response level to level 2.

Level 2 fire response is issued when the expected damage area is less than 50 to 100 hectares. Inje County sent disaster text messages to nearby residents around 3:39 p.m., advising them to evacuate to the gymnasium of Girin Elementary School, the gymnasium of Girin Middle and High School, and the Girin Indoor Gymnasium.

A total of 133 residents of Girin-myeon evacuated to safety in accordance with the guidance starting at 4:11 p.m.

As of 6 p.m. that day, forest and fire authorities were conducting wildfire suppression operations with 30 helicopters, 42 firefighting vehicles, and 298 personnel deployed.

The total fire line is 5 kilometers, with a suppression rate of 20%. Following the sunset when the firefighting helicopters withdraw, plans are in place to deploy firefighting personnel for nighttime suppression efforts.
