A man in his 30s, identified as A, who is suspected of killing one person in a knife attack at a supermarket in Mia-dong, Gangbuk District, Seoul, was arrested on the 24th.
The Northern District Court of Seoul opened a pre-arrest interrogation for A, who is facing murder charges, on the same day and stated that it issued an arrest warrant, citing concerns that he might flee.
Upon arriving at the court that morning, A said, "I’m sorry," and in response to a reporter's question, "Sorry to whom?" he answered, "To the victim." The warrant hearing, which began at 10:30 a.m., concluded around 11:14 a.m., after approximately 44 minutes.
After the hearing, when asked by reporters if he had anything else to say, he stated, "I will not do this kind of thing again."
A is suspected of wielding a weapon and killing a woman in her 60s and injuring a woman in her 40s at a supermarket in Mia-dong around 6:20 p.m. on the 22nd. A and the victims are reported to have not known each other prior to the incident.
Immediately after the knife attack, A calmly smoked a cigarette in an alley next to the supermarket and reported the crime to the police. According to the police, there was no significant resistance during the arrest.
