On Jan. 1, a member of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions was sentenced to a suspended prison term in the first trial for allegedly assaulting a police officer with a radio near the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul.

The 12th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court, presided over by Director General Choi Jeong-in, sentenced Lee Mo (53), a member of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, to two years in prison with a three-year suspended sentence on the 24th for obstruction of special public duties.

Lee was brought to trial on charges of throwing a radio that he seized during a protest near the presidential residence on Jan. 4, injuring a police officer’s forehead and scalp.

At that time, protests both supporting and opposing the attempt to arrest former President Yoon Seok-yeol by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) were held near the presidential residence.
