Actor Yoo Ah-in, who is on trial for drug charges, has been nominated for the best actor award at the Directors' Cut Awards.
The Directors Guild of Korea (DGK) announced the nominees for the 23rd Directors' Cut Awards on the 22nd. Yoo Ah-in was nominated for best actor for his role in 'The Match,' alongside Robert Pattinson from 'Mickey 17,' Yoon Ju-sang from 'The Morning Sea Seagull,' Lee Byung-hun from 'The Match,' Choi Min-sik from 'The Disappearance,' and others.
In this film, Yoo Ah-in portrayed the childhood of Lee Chang-ho, a rival of his mentor, Go master Cho Hun-hyun, 9th dan. He was put on trial for habitual drug use just before the film's public release.
Yoo Ah-in received a one-year prison sentence in the first trial last September and was taken into custody, but was released last month after the second trial reduced the sentence to one year with a two-year probation. The prosecution has appealed the verdict.
The nominees for best actress at the Directors' Cut Awards include Kim Goeun from 'The Love Law of Great Cities,' Kim Goeun from 'The Disappearance,' Kim Jae-hwa from 'She Died,' Shin Hye-sun from 'She Died,' and Yang Hee-kyung from 'The Morning Sea Seagull.' The nominees for best director in the film category include Kim Hyung-joo for 'The Match,' Nam Dong-hyup for 'Handsome Guys,' Bong Joon-ho for 'Mickey 17,' Woo Min-ho for 'Harbin,' Jang Jae-hyun for 'The Disappearance,' and Heo Jin-ho for 'Ordinary Family.'
The Directors' Cut Awards are selected by directors affiliated with the Directors Guild of Korea using a one-person, one-vote system. A total of 13 awards will be given across 8 film categories and 5 series categories.
