Around 6:20 p.m. on the 22nd, a man in his 30s, referred to as A, wielded a weapon in a supermarket in Mia-dong, Gangbuk District, Seoul, resulting in one death and one injury.
According to police and fire authorities, a woman in her 60s inside the supermarket was stabbed and transported to a nearby hospital in cardiac arrest but died. One woman in her 40s sustained minor injuries and is receiving treatment at the hospital. She is in stable condition.
Police arrested A at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. The police explained that A and the victims were previously unknown to each other.
According to the police, A is under investigation for unwrapping the weapon displayed inside the supermarket and swinging it. A was dressed in a hospital gown and reportedly offered no significant resistance during the arrest.
Police are investigating A on murder charges. Initially, it was attempted murder, but with the death of one victim, the charge has changed to murder.
A witness, who operates a nearby restaurant, said, "The deceased victim was just grocery shopping and got attacked, and the owner was injured while trying to intervene. How could this happen?"
