A wind turbine collapsed at the Geumsungsan Wind Power Plant in Hwasun-gun, Jeonnam.
According to Hwasun-gun, around 2:50 a.m. on the 21st, one 4.7-megawatt (㎿) wind turbine, installed along the ridge of Hwacheong Mountain in Uchi-ri, Doam-myeon, Hwasun-gun, broke at the middle pole and fell. There were no casualties as it occurred in a restricted area.
The wind turbine that had the accident was the 11th of the 11 turbines in the plant and was installed in June 2023. Among the 11 turbines, numbers 1 to 7 are operating normally, while numbers 8 to 11 are undergoing safety inspections. Hwasun-gun plans to investigate the exact cause of the accident with the manufacturer and suppliers.
The Geumsungsan Wind Power Plant began construction in April 2021 and has had all 11 wind turbines in commercial operation since June 2023. The total installed capacity is 51.7 ㎿.
