In Gangnam District, Seoul (District Head Cho Seong-myung) will conduct training for the opening and closing of the floodgates from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the 24th to prepare for extreme summer rainstorms, it announced on the 20th. During the training period, pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be fully controlled.

Gangnam District, in conjunction with Seoul City, decided to inspect three floodgate locations (Sinsa Interchange, Gangnam Interchange, and Sincheongdam Interchange). The floodgates are a flood control facility that blocks river water from flowing into the city when the Han River water level rises. They are usually used as pathways for citizens heading to Han River Park.

This training simulates a flooding scenario of the Han River. On the day of the training, the operation status of the hoist, the opening and closing of the gates, and the presence of sediment and foreign substances in the lower gate frames will be checked. During the training period, pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be fully controlled. The district will cooperate with the Gangnam Police Station and the Future Han River Headquarters of Seoul City to control vehicle traffic. It plans to inform in advance about the traffic restriction times and detours through the installation of banners and other means.

The district also plans to conduct regular operational checks on flood control facilities by the 2nd of next month. Gangnam District has a total of 20 major flood control facilities, including eight pump stations, such as the Daechi Rainwater Pump Station, and 12 gates, including the Daechi Drainage Gate.

District Head Cho Seong-myung said, "With localized heavy rains expected again this summer due to abnormal weather, we are thoroughly inspecting important flood control facilities," and noted, "In preparation for natural disasters, we will establish a rapid response system centered on the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to thoroughly protect the lives and property of our residents."
