On the 18th, the prosecution requested an arrest warrant for Lee Cheol-kyu, a member of the People Power Party, who is facing charges of drug use.
According to the legal community, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office submitted an arrest warrant for Lee, based on a request from the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, for offenses related to marijuana use and transfer under the Narcotics Control Act.
The prosecution also reportedly requested arrest warrants for two of Lee's accomplices. It has been confirmed that an arrest warrant was not requested for his wife, who was identified as an accomplice and also registered as a suspect.
Lee was arrested by police for attempting to locate liquid marijuana buried in a flowerbed in a dwelling area of Seocho District last October using the so-called "throwing" method. The throwing method involves the seller instructing the distributor to hide the drugs in an inconspicuous location, informing only the buyer where to find them.
Subsequently, police have been investigating whether Lee smoked or ingested marijuana, based on the National Forensic Service's report indicating a positive response for marijuana in his hair. It is known that Lee had previously been indicted for marijuana charges but received a non-prosecution disposition.
