A court ordered the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute to delete videos of YouTuber 'Zzuyang' (real name Park Jeong-won) that were posted without her consent.
The Seoul Central District Court's Civil Division 51 (Director General Park Sang-eon) issued a partial acceptance ruling on the provisional injunction case that Zzuyang filed against Gaseyeon and its representative Kim Se-ui on the 17th.
The court noted that the contents of the videos in question were not only sufficient to lower Zzuyang's social value and evaluation but also infringed on matters that should be protected as private secrets. It stated, "Posting this on a YouTube channel accessible to an unspecified large number of people exceeds the legitimate exercise of rights."
However, the court dismissed Zzuyang's request that if Gaseyeon did not delete the videos, they should pay 1 million won for each instance per day. The court judged that there was insufficient evidence to support the concern that Gaseyeon would either not delete the existing videos or repeatedly post the same content in the future.
Earlier, Kim posted a video on his channel in July of last year claiming that Zzuyang was threatened by fellow YouTuber Gyujaeok (real name Lee Joon-hee) and included recordings related to her private life. Although Zzuyang posted a rebuttal video, Kim uploaded another video stating that Zzuyang's explanation was not true.
In response, Zzuyang filed a complaint against Kim for violating the Stalking Punishment Law, as well as for threats and coercion.
The police decided not to forward the case against Kim in February due to insufficient evidence. However, the prosecution accepted Zzuyang's objection and requested a supplementary investigation from the police. The supplementary investigation is being conducted at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul. Zzuyang attended the Gangnam Police Station on the 16th for questioning as a complainant but left after about 40 minutes, refusing to be interrogated.
