The donations collected by the public for the recovery from the wildfires that hit the Yeongnam region have surpassed 130 billion won.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters on the 12th, the total amount of donations collected through disaster relief associations and others as of 5 p.m. the previous day was approximately 132.8 billion won.
This amount exceeds the donations collected during the 2022 wildfire in North Gyeongsang and Gangwon provinces (approximately 83 billion won) and the Sewol ferry disaster (129 billion won). The donations for the Sewol ferry disaster accumulated from the date of the accident, April 16, 2014, until August 2018, spanning about four years.
Following the wildfires, psychological counseling for the victims has also continued, with 11,293 cases of psychological counseling and psychological first aid provided. However, 2,199 households and 3,633 victims are still residing in temporary evacuation facilities, lodging facilities, and relatives' homes.
The number of casualties from this wildfire has also increased by one injured person, raising the total to 83. This includes 31 deaths, 9 seriously injured, and 43 with minor injuries. As of 6 a.m. on that day, the number of damaged facilities reached 8,457, including 8,200 in North Gyeongsang, which have either been completely burned or partially damaged.
The government will conduct a joint investigation of disaster damage until the 15th. Based on the results of the investigation, it will assess the exact extent of damages and establish a recovery plan.
