The two wildfires that ignited in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in Yeoncheon County were fully extinguished in just over a day.

According to forest and fire authorities, a wildfire broke out at 2:15 p.m. on the 11th in the DMZ hillside of Wangjing-myeon in Yeoncheon County. About 40 minutes later, a fire also occurred in the DMZ hillside of Jung-myeon in Yeoncheon County.

Authorities deployed five helicopters to carry out firefighting operations for two consecutive days, completing the extinguishing of the Jung-myeon wildfire at 2:30 p.m. on the 12th and the Wangjing-myeon wildfire at 4:35 p.m.

Although the wildfire in the DMZ, where vehicle access is difficult, faced challenges in firefighting efforts, the rainfall helped in the extinguishing process.

There were no reported casualties. Forest authorities are investigating the affected area.
