An incident occurred in which a teacher was assaulted by a student in a 12th-grade classroom at a high school in Mok-dong, Seoul.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education on the 10th, a report was received that a 12th-grade student hit a teacher in the face with a cellphone during class at a high school in Mok-dong, Yangcheon District, Seoul. The student reportedly acted out after being pointed out by the teacher for playing games on the cellphone during class. This student also struck the teacher's desk and threw class materials on the floor.

Surrounding students filmed the incident, and the student was sent home after being handed over to a guardian.

The Office of Education said, 'Since the student was immediately separated from the class, they will be disciplined according to the procedures of the Regional Teacher Protection Committee (교보위).' The committee is an organization that can take action against violations of teacher rights and determine necessary measures such as community service or attendance suspension.

The teacher left early that day for medical treatment and plans to take special leave afterward.

An official from the Office of Education said, 'The school and the education office are discussing future action plans, and they aim to hold a teacher protection committee as soon as possible,' adding, 'Considering that both students and teachers witnessed the incident, counseling and educational support are planned.'
