Acting Minister of the Interior and Safety Ko Gi-dong urged Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo to ensure that there is no gap in the city's administration after he resigned to run in the presidential election.
Acting Minister Ko noted in a phone call with Daegu Vice Mayor Kim Jeong-ki on the 11th that "all public officials in Daegu must fulfill their responsibilities as always and ensure that there is no slack in the city administration for the well-being and safety of the residents."
He also said, "Please continue to advance projects closely related to people's livelihoods, such as job creation and support for small businesses and vulnerable communities, and work diligently on thorough safety management in preparation for safety accidents such as wildfires, fires, and collapses, as well as revitalizing the local economy."
Regarding the 21st presidential election, he said, "Public officials must adhere to their obligation of political neutrality and handle their duties under strict public service discipline, and the acting authority must be a clear center of city administration."
Meanwhile, Mayor Hong plans to declare his candidacy for the presidential election on the 14th in Yeouido, Seoul, after stepping down as mayor of Daegu.
