Minister Lee Wan-kyu said on the 9th, "The impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol is a concluded matter, and there is no disagreement." Acting President Han Duck-soo nominated Minister Lee as a candidate for Constitutional Court Justice the day before.
At the National Assembly's Legal Affairs and Judiciary Committee meeting that day, Minister Lee responded to Democratic Party member Jeong Cheong-rae's question about whether there was any objection to the Constitutional Court's unanimous decision to impeach the president, saying, "The Constitutional Court's ruling must be executed as is and must proceed as it is."
In response, Chairperson Jeong asked, "Does this mean you accept the impeachment of former President Yoon?" and Minister Lee replied, "Yes." Chairperson Jeong further questioned, "Why isn't former President Yoon stating that he accepts the impeachment?" To this, Minister Lee said, "That is something I cannot answer."
Minister Lee said, "The impeachment of former President Yoon is a concluded matter with an 8 to 0 ruling, and there is no disagreement about it." He added, "Former President Yoon has already been impeached, and since legal proceedings will follow, I do not have any other opinions on the matter."
Minister Lee also addressed questions regarding the controversy over holding membership in the People Power Party, saying, "I have never joined any political party, including the People Power Party, to engage in political activities." He noted, "Some lawmaker requested documentation to verify whether I had membership in the People Power Party, and the Ministry of Legislation received an official letter from the People Power Party stating that I never had party membership," and added, "I will submit it upon request."
Moreover, when Park Eun-jung, a member of the Justice Reform Party, stated that it would be appropriate for him to resign due to the failure to properly support his friend, former President Yoon, Minister Lee responded, "It's difficult to agree with a statement that I should take full responsibility." He continued, "Of course, it is true that I have been friends with former President Yoon since college," but added, "I would prefer if personal issues were not questioned."
