Minister Kim Moon-soo of the Ministry of Employment and Labor said on the 8th, "I will make the official announcement for the presidential election tomorrow," noting, "It is time for us to unite so that the Republic of Korea can develop."
Minister Kim met with reporters after the Cabinet meeting held at the Government Seoul Building that morning, stating his plans for the presidential election announcement.
Minister Kim is reported to have resigned from his ministerial position immediately after the Cabinet meeting held that morning.
When asked about the background of his candidacy for the presidential election, Kim said, "There are people whom the public wants and I thought there are national difficulties."
He also stated regarding the pledges he would like to make after announcing his candidacy, "I believe it can be seen as a national crisis," adding, "The economy is difficult, and the people are struggling." He continued, saying, "I think we need to unite for the development of the Republic of Korea with the political community and all the citizens," and said, "I will join in that effort."
Regarding his plans to return to the People Power Party, Minister Kim said, "I think we need to discuss it," but added, "There is no special procedure for the return."
In response to a question about how he evaluates Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, Minister Kim said, "He is someone I know personally," adding, "When he was the governor, he was the mayor of Seongnam, and I also know his brother and sister-in-law well." He then stated, "The public will feel more about him than I do."
