A total of 110 billion won in donations has been sent to help recover from the damage caused by recent wildfires across the country, marking the largest disaster relief fund ever recorded.
According to the Gyeongbuk Province on the 7th, the amount of relief funds raised nationwide for the recovery and support of this wildfire crisis, which caused severe damage in the Yeongnam region, is 112.4 billion won as of the afternoon of that day.
This surpasses the approximately 80 billion won in donations during the East Coast wildfires in 2022, making it the largest amount ever collected for disaster relief funds.
By fundraising entities, the Korea Disaster Relief Association and the Korean Red Cross, among eight registered organizations, accounted for 92.5 billion won in donations. Relief funds from Gyeongbuk Province and its local governments, which suffered the most damage, totaled 13.8 billion won. The remaining 6.1 billion won came from the hometown love donation fund.
The relief fund of 112.4 billion won does not include the fundraising amounts from Gyeongnam and Ulsan, which also suffered from the wildfires. It is expected that the total aggregates will increase further as future fundraising amounts from Gyeongnam and Ulsan are added.
